FOCUS: Interactive PK-2 Classrooms

In this NEW FOCUS session, gain fresh Foldable approaches involving scaffolding and developmental level-appropriate tasks aimed at early literacy and numeracy. Interactive classroom displays and classroom manipulatives will be demonstrated and constructed--you'll leave knowing how and when to use them in your own classroom. Relevant standards will be addressed and explicitly linked to activities. Learn how to effectively utilize Dinah's new LOCOmotion materials in your PK-2 classroom!

Session schedule: we will start at 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 and end instruction at 5 p.m. with lunch on your own in Comfort. We will open the building on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from 9 a.m. until noon so that those who wish to return can utilize the workspace to create classroom sets or classroom displays. Instruction will occur on Friday; Saturday will offer extra construction and inspiration time.

Please note: FOCUS institutes are designed to illustrate graphic organizer applications to particular content areas, not to learn basic skills in using graphic organizers. Implementation of relevant Common Core State Standards (and TEKS) is a focus within each module. Additionally, ideas for using graphic organizers as formative and summative assessment tools will also be addressed. Dinah Zike Academy is a recognized provider of continuing professional education (CPE) by the State of Texas (Official Provider name: Dinah-Might Adventures LP; Provider # 501-536). 8 hours CPE credit available for this session.

Unlike most FOCUS sessions, no prior experience with Foldables is required for this Participants pursuing certification as DZ trainers will complete additional follow-up requirements.
