Things to Do:

  1. Observe and discuss Display Case graphics as you introduce or review letters and sounds. What words and graphics are used to represent each initial and final sound?
  2. Note that words beginning with the featured initial consonant are on the left side of the Display and words ending with the consonant are on the right.
  3. Place physical objects in the display that have names that begin and/or end with the featured consonant.
  4. Collect and sort photographs of things that have names (nouns) that begin and/or end with the featured letter.
  5. Use the Display Cases to feature word families (phonograms) with the same final consonant.Example:-at, -et, -it, -ot, -ut
  6. “Read” the words used as wallpaper on the Display Case. Students can make flashcards of the words they know and words they need to know. Collect words from literature and real-world print sources such as magazines and advertisements.
  7. Place the Display Cases end-to-end to form a sequential train of letters. Discuss why some letters are missing and differentiate between vowels and consonants.
  8. How many words can you find that begin and end with the featured consonant? Place a star on these flashcards to show their importance. Examples: bib, dad, pup
