Dinah has announced several special three-hour Academy sessions FREE to e-group members for Summer 2010! Sessions will be taught by Academy directors and Dinah will be present at most sessions:

Tues. 7/20, 10:00 am-1:30 pm Elementary Science Extravaganza: Children's Literature and Foldables

Fri. 7/23, 10:00 am-1:30 pm Reading and Writing Across Content Areas: Foldables and Notebooking

Fri. 7/30, 10:00 am-1:30 pm Putting Words in Their Hands: Scaffolding Academic Vocabulary Development

Sat. 7/31, 10:00 am-1:30 pm Notebook Foldables for Math

Fri. 8/6, 10:00 am-1:30 pm The Write Reasons: Supporting Informational Writing with Foldables

Fri. 8/13, 7:30 pm-midnight Viewing of Perseid Meteor Shower and Foldables Unit; session begins at Dinah Zike Academy at 7:30 pm with appetizers and Foldables Strategies for Astronomy (all grade levels); session continues outside building with telescopes, binoculars, lawn chairs, and a picnic in the dark. NOTE: Participants will need to spend the night in the area and are responsible for those arrangements and costs.

    Active: Perseids begin to rise early August
    Peak Activity: Night of Aug. 12-13
    Peak Activity Meteor Count: Approximately 50 meteors per hour
    Time of optimal viewing: Crescent moon will set early in the evening, allowing for continuously dark skies until peak viewing just before dawn.
    Meteor velocity: 61 km (38 mi) per second
    Note: The Perseid meteor shower is one of the brightest and most consistent performers and is considered by many to be this year's best shower.

Each FREE session includes the following:
    - 3 hours of TEA credit
    - lunch or dinner (depending on time of session)
    - supplies and materials

Register as soon as possible--sessions will be limited in size and we will close this offer when all sessions are filled.

This offer is directed toward e-group members. You are welcome to bring a friend (or friends), but they must be e-group members or join before the session. If you are not currently a member, by registering for one or more sessions, you will become an e-group member.
