Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What are Foldables® and how do they work?
Foldables® are three-dimensional graphic organizers that take complicated data and information and make it visual and kinesthetic. The main idea is written on the outside and supporting facts/supplemental details are written under the tabs. By chunking information in this way, students are encouraged to self-question/self-check as the Foldable® is manipulated. Foldables® help students learn how to “organize their thoughts.”
What is a TCA Award?
For 17 years, the Learning® magazine Teachers' Choice Awards have heralded the very best in classroom-tested, teacher-recommended products. Each year a nationwide panel of teacher-judges names the standouts in books, classroom supplies, educational games, software, websites, and more—everything you need for your classroom. After receiving top ratings in two rounds of rigorous judging, here are this year's winners.
Are all of the Foldables in this (x) book? OR What book has all of these?
The directions for how to make all of the Foldables® displayed here are in each of Dinah’s books. While you might see some of the actual content applications in her books, many of the ideas for content have come from teachers and students who’ve used the books for inspiration. (NOTE: Earth Science is not a Foldables® book.)
How are these good for… (a named student population)? ex.; HS, MS, G/T, SPED, ELL
Brain research has shown that the human brain learns most effectively when given information in chunks. Basically, because Foldables® teach students to chunk information, they are applicable across grade levels and subjects.
What’s the one book that has all the information I need to get started?
Often, when we are out at conferences, we are asked this question by many teachers. First, what is it that you teach? Next, are you looking for general information or ideas specifically designed for note booking in the classroom. Some books are subject specific and full of ideas and colored pictures to get you started. Others are non-subject specific and demonstrate the organizational format.
